A Trip to Switzerland That Will Take You All Around Lake Leman

My wife and I decided to take a weeklong trip overseas because it has been so long since our last vacation. We settled on a trip to Switzerland, where we would rent a car and see the country by driving around lake Leman (commonly known as lake Geneva).

You may book a flight and arrange a vehicle rental without ever leaving your house with today’s technologies. We booked our flight, printed our tickets, and used our home printer to generate our rental car voucher.

We took an afternoon flight to Geneva, Switzerland. We picked up our rental car at the airport and headed out of Geneva around the lake. It was becoming late, so we checked into a cozy little hotel on the shore of Lake Nyon in nearby Nyon.

When you’re near a body of water, whether it’s a lake or the ocean, you feel a sense of calm, pleasure, and strength. Because of this, we decided to go the long way around the lake.

There was never a cloud in the sky or a breath of wind the entire time we were away.

We didn’t bother to make any hotel reservations in advance. We just drove around and, since there are so many options, began our hotel search in the late afternoon. Although Swiss hotels tend to be on the pricier side, you can expect a comfortable stay and a hearty breakfast in most cases.

A Visit to Vevey

There were many memorable moments during my trip, but I’ll focus on just two. The first is a place known as Vevey. We got there at lunchtime, stayed the night, and left around lunchtime the following day. We were back in this lovely city for the second time.

There is a lovely promenade in Vevey that runs along the shore of the lake, and you can spend hours there taking in the sights and sounds of the water, the mountains, the boats, the swans, and the strolling locals and tourists.

Staying in Vevey for a bit allows you to recharge your batteries, take in some beautiful scenery, and rejuvenate your spirit.

While taking an early morning stroll down the seafront, we happened upon a display of vintage automobiles. There were a wide variety of vintage automobiles, and they were all in excellent shape. Only in ancient movies, especially movies set in the 20th century, can you see cars like the ones we photographed. I found out that they organize another auto exhibition next year by visiting their website.

A Visit to Zermatt and the Mattterhorn

Mattehorn, Switzerland’s tallest peak, is the second highlight I’d like to discuss. Clouds prevent the peak from being seen, or so I’ve been told. When we visited, though, the sky was blue, and its peak shone in all its glory.

We drove quite a ways from the lake to get to the Matterhorn.

We pulled into the tiny town of Tasch, not far from Zermatt, and parked in a huge lot close to the railway station.

We then took a train for the remaining 15 minutes to Zermatt, a town at the base of the Matterhorn that sits at an elevation of around 1600 meters above sea level.

We were told it was too late to climb when we got there, so we came back the next day. We retraced our steps back to Randa, where we slept at the Matterhorn Golf Hotel, a lovely establishment operated by a kind and generous Italian couple.

The next morning, we went back to the Tasch railway station and got the train to Zermatt after a fascinating discussion on the Internet and websites with the hotel’s owner, Maurizio.

We walked into Zermatt, which is filled with hotels, restaurants, and stores, before catching the cable car to the peak. We took three different cable cars up and down, each time seeing a breathtaking panorama of the city below and the surrounding mountains.
