Winter Fun: Best of Glenwood Springs, Colorado

Glenwood Springs, Colorado, is a beautiful mountain town that would be perfect for a winter vacation this year. This little village in the Colorado Rocky Mountains is a popular weekend destination for Denverites and their families.

There are still plenty of wintertime outdoor activities to enjoy in Glenwood Springs, despite the closure of popular trails like Hanging Lake Trail, Grizzly Creek Trail, and the Glenwood Canyon Bike Path due to the Grizzly Creek Fire.

THINGS TO DO IN GLENWOOD SPRINGS:

SOAK IN THE HOT SPRINGS IN ONE OF THREE GLENWOOD HOT SPRINGS:

Many residents of the Centennial State travel to one of Glenwood Springs’ three hot springs to relax in the healing mineral waters. Nothing beats relaxing in a hot mineral water pool and letting the water soothe your aches and pains. The spring water is also known for its purifying and healing properties.

THE GLENWOOD HOT SPRINGS POOL:

The Glenwood Hot Springs Pool, located in the Glenwood Hot Springs Resort, is the largest hot springs pool in the world. You can thank the Yampah Spring for the water. The water has several health benefits, including easing aches and pains.

You don’t need a booking to take the kids swimming or relax in the water. Unless you’re really swimming, you must wear a mask at all times when in the public areas of the Glenwood Hot Springs Pool.

IRON MOUNTAIN HOT SPRINGS:

You should put Iron Mountain Hot Springs next on your list of potential hot springs destinations. In Glenwood Springs, it sits right on the Colorado River. The water in the 16 pools comes from one of three sources: the Gamba, the Hobo, or the CDOT.

YAMPAH SPA AND VAPOR CAVES:

At long last, you’ll be able to enjoy the Yampah Spa and Vapor Caves. Mineral springs up to 125 degrees Fahrenheit flow beneath the caverns’ ground. The temperature in the caves reaches 110-112 degrees, making them ideal for those who enjoy a steam room.

A soothing spa treatment is also available by appointment. In order to help you unwind during your time in Glenwood Springs, they provide a wide range of spa treatments.

AFFORDABLE COLORADO SKIING:

The Sunlight Mountain Resort is the next stop, and it’s only a 12-mile drive from Glenwood Springs. Lift tickets are cheaper here than in other popular ski destinations like Aspen and Vail. You can learn how to ski or snowboard from qualified instructors. After you’ve had your training, you may put what you’ve learned into practice on any of the 67 trails in the area.

FAMILY-FRIENDLY PUBLIC ART DOWNTOWN:

Next up is an event not to be missed if you enjoy works of public art. Chrissy Lee-Manes, a businesswoman in the area, came up with the idea for Find Your Wings.

There are four pairs of wings, each large enough to fit a human, scattered throughout Glenwood Springs. Try to track down every one of them.

To entice you to keep wandering, the Downtown Development Authority is planning to construct three or four new wings.

GLENWOOD CAVERNS ADVENTURE PARK:

The Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park is a fun outing for the whole family or group of friends visiting Glenwood Springs.

Santa will make an appearance at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park during the holiday season, but he won’t be doing any lap sitting or ear whispering this year. Don’t worry, though; your kids can still sit on a separate chair next to Santa and share their Christmas wish lists with him.

This amusement park at the top of a mountain is still open for business despite the widespread destruction that COVID has wreaked on the commercial sector and theme parks. The amusement park just requires that you arrive at the selected time window and that you wear a mask, but you can remain for as long as you choose.

Travelers can ride the Glenwood Gondola to the summit of Iron Mountain, home to the only theme park of its kind in the United States, where other attractions await.

GONDOLA RIDES AND CAVE TOURS:

A gondola ride will get your adventure at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park started off right. The only way to reach the park is by taking the gondola ride to the top of the mountain.

Glenwood Caverns is the place to go if you’ve ever been curious about what a cave looks like on the inside. At the moment, you can pick between two distinct excursions.

Glenwood Caverns’ official website claims that “Kings Row (is) the most decorated cave room in Colorado.” Touring the Fairy Caves takes about 40 minutes. You’ll want to take lots of pictures in the caves because of how beautiful they are. They seem too unlikely to have happened by chance.

Bring a jacket, as the caves tend to be cool. Strollers and wheelchairs are not permitted because some of the caves are too narrow. If you are expecting a child, have a heart condition, or have trouble breathing, you shouldn’t go on the tour.

THRILL RIDES:

The adventure junkies in your family will like the rides and activities at Glenwood Caverns. The Haunted Mine Drop is an attraction that lets you plummet 110 feet while listening to mine workers recount their experiences with a tragic mining disaster. No matter how many times you go on, the thrill of the cart’s rapid descent to the earth never gets old.

The Alpine Coaster is another popular attraction. You shouldn’t miss this ride just because it’s winter. The fact that you control the speed of the Alpine Coaster is what makes it so special. You have the option of racing down the track at high speeds or taking it easy to take in the breathtaking views of the Colorado mountains.

The 4D Motion Theater, with its revolving chairs and other amazing effects, is another exciting option. The theater has fixed seats so that even the youngest audience members may enjoy the show. They need to sit on an adult’s lap, but that doesn’t prevent them from enjoying the show.
